“Orison” (Track 3) Lyrics and Explanation

Hey guys,

This it my first post explaining the lyrics to the new album.  The song in this post is called “Orison” which by definition means “a prayer.”

Let’s start with the lyrics:

My prayer, my prayer
That faith will be my voice of reason
Through trials and storms
My hope will always lie in you
If I should fail
Your mercy will be never failing
My hope in the unseen to stay forever strong

That through flame and fire
My mouth never denies
That my hearts desires
My mouth never denies

You pardon all of the transgression that I’ll ever see
Your mercy reaches past my burdens and my apathy
If ever I should thirst with water you reach out to me
If ever I should fear unfailing love will surround me

Rectify my life,
I want to burn for you
Take this flesh and bone
and make it what you will

That I may seek you in the darkest of the blackest nights
That I may know that those who truly seek will always find
That I may knock and know the door will always open wide
That I reflect upon the day the stone was rolled aside

The explanation of this song is actually pretty brief/simple.  The lyrics basically express my desire to live my every day life in a way that is both Christ-like and constantly seeking better growth and understanding.  The idea in the chorus is that I would have an open mind to the true meaning behind God’s word and use that knowledge to hopefully guide others with questions or confusion on why we believe.

I would love to hear from anyone with their opinion on the lyrics or the meaning behind them, so please feel free to use the comment section, and I’ll respond the best I can!

Josh, this is fantastic! These lyrics reflect a heart trusting in Gods promises and his faithfulness and a desire to be the person that Christ would have us be in his power. They truly bring God Glory. Looking forward to picking up the disc and giving them as gifts to some of my metalhead friends, saved and unsaved. Thank you for using the incredible gifts God has given you for his Glory and his fame. I’ll be praying for HFTD. \o/ !

I know this is much after the fact but just receiving your album earlier this week I wanted to say I’m very thankful for this post and your openness in sharing your faith and heart.

I grew up in a Christian home and would have labeled myself a Christian for most of my life. I attended church every week, taught Sunday School classes, went to Bible study, was on committees working in the church, even church board chairman at a fairly young age. Never the less, my heart had no great desire for God and true love was not there. I made the endless search to satisfy my own desire in music, owning well over 2,000 metal CD’s amassed over the course of 18 years. It wasn’t until, at the age of 30, January last year I fell in love with Jesus Christ, in the silence of an empty room, there realizing, after all the years, the true depravity of my heart, the hypocrisy and emptiness of my spirit. Recognizing in part that the wall of CD’s beside me was a visual representation of my emptiness the Lord changed my heart and my desire ran and yearned for only what truly honored the Lord. Matthew 5:6 became true and no longer did it have to be stripped from my Bible. He could satisfy all my longings and He alone was worthy. In no legalistic way but rather, as Tozer describes in The Pursuit of God about the gaze of the soul and the old hymn says, when I turned my eyes upon Jesus the things of earth grew strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

In these days I have lost much entertainment in the world’s eyes but I search only, and that beyond all bounds, for a life that truly praises and gives honor and glory to God and for this reason I’m thankful for your words and this CD. Yes it is entertaining, an outstanding album in those terms, but it is eternally minded. I pray that it brings honor to Him! If no one were to ever hear it, would it satisfy the King? Let it be a prayer in the Spirit! The last line of the song is the greatest. 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

I’ll pray for your boldness brother and hope that in all you do you may have the strength to impact eternity! I pray that upon entering the gates you have gained souls for the kingdom by the workings of the Spirit in your heart! Bless you brother! Be strengthened in the Lord! As Leonard Ravenhill would esteem, we should desire to be known in hell warring against the kingdom of Satan, conquerors for Christ!

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

    Very nice song.Thank.

  • Beautiful music, beautiful lyrics..
Many years i’ve been looking for a bands that will honor God, be open before God, speak the very words of God.
Man, there are so many themes that no other musical genre can handle as well as metal. The cross, death to self, the wrath of God, the Judgement, the Apocalypse.. And all they sing about is complete nonsense mixed with blatant pathos and broken relationships… Pathetic, in one word.
I’m so glad to discover another good band.
God bless and answer your prayer, bro.
